The City of Newark Planning Commission is hosting a Public Workshop to gather input for updating the City’s Comprehensive Development Plan. The workshop will be focused on downtown economic development.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 26, at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at the Newark Municipal Building, 220 South Main Street, Newark, DE  19711.  The event is sponsored by the City of Newark Planning Commission to gather public input for the Newark Comprehensive Development Plan.  Topics will include:

– Commercial space in Newark: current inventory and future needs.

The public is invited to review a presentation on downtown economic development in Newark and to discuss with Planning Commissioners Newark’s downtown economic development needs and policy preferences.

The intent of the comprehensive development planning process is to develop and integrate Newark’s plan for land use, annexation, redevelopment, economic development, housing, transportation, infrastructure, natural and cultural resources, and intergovernmental coordination.

The 18-month planning process effort began at Newark Day this past June. It includes a series of public workshops and meetings sponsored by the Newark Planning Commission.  Public feedback from these meetings assists the Planning Commission in developing a recommendation to City Council for their adoption.
