Rte. 202, I-95 exit to close for bridge replacement

The Delaware Department of Transportation is advising that removal of the old bridge transiting U.S. Route 202 from I-95 northbound to Route 202 northbound will require two weekend closures of 202 in both directions at the I-95 interchange.

The closure of Route 202 in both the northbound and the southbound direction will begin at 10:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, and continue until Monday morning, January 28, 5:00 a.m. The closure will resume during the weekend of February 1 through February 4. The closing dates can be changed, due to weather.

Detour Routes for 202 northbound and southbound:

  • To go south along U.S. Route 202 southbound to Wilmington: Traffic on southbound U.S. Route 202 will be detoured onto southbound I-95 to Exit 7A-B, Delaware Avenue. Traffic will then go north on Jackson Street, make a left onto 9th Street, make a left onto Adams Street, take the ramp to northbound I-95, take Exit 8 Concord Pike Wilmington.
  • To go south along U.S. Route 202: Traffic on southbound I-95 will be detoured to Exit 7A-B Delaware Avenue, proceed north on Jackson Street, make a left onto 9th Street, make a left onto Adams Street, take the ramp to northbound I-95, take Exit 8 Concord Pike Wilmington. (This detour is now in effect due to the permanent closing of Exit 8A southbound I-95).
  • To go north along U.S. Route 202 out of Wilmington and to go southbound on I-95: All traffic will be detoured onto the ramp to northbound I-95 to Marsh Road, then to southbound I-95, Exit 8B, to north U.S. Route 202, or stay on southbound I-95 to go south.
  • To go north along I-95 from southbound U.S. Route 202: Traffic will take the ramp from southbound U.S. Route 202 to northbound I-95. Variable message boards will be placed to notify motorists of the upcoming closures.
