The first Delaware-based public radio station now has live streaming of its programming.
Listeners can go to WDDE.org on your computer or other device and click the LISTEN LIVE button.
The streaming option has been awaited by public radio listeners, since the station went on the air on Aug. 17th.
The station operates 24 hours a day from a studio and headquarters in Dover on the Delaware State University campus. The station’s partners are the Delaware State University and the University of Delaware.
The WDDE signal at 91.1 FM will cover Kent County and extend into portions of Sussex and New Castle County. A car radio check indicated spotty reception in Odessa and Middletown, with an improved signal in T0wnsend.
Public radio also offers apps that steam station programming to cell phones, home stereo speakers and other devices. The growing use of streaming will reduce the need for the limited area repeater transmitters that are used by some public radio stations.
WDDE is a venture of Delaware First Media, which operates a website featuring locally generated Delaware news. The website now operates under the WDDE. org web address.
Delaware is believed to have been the last state without a locally headquartered public radio station. WHYY, a public radio station operates a radio station with Delaware content from its Philadelphia studios. It also has a television and online Newsworks presence in the state, but ceased airing a daily Delaware television news show a few yearsw ago. It now has a weekly show. – Doug Rainey
