The company did announce that it will donate $1 million in software to Junior Achievement of Delaware. The store will allow the company to sell and promote its products, including the XBox and the upcoming Surface tablet computer.
Microsoft has largely been on the sidelines as rival Apple has lavished attention on its retail system, but is now building a presence, using free concerts to promote the store openings.
Delaware is always at the top of retail expansion lists, thanks to its lack of a sales tax. Christiana Mall was one of the early locations for the Apple Store, which has since been expanded to a larger space in the mall.
Apple is now expanding its store and moved to temporary quarters in a mall space with an outside entrance. The Apple store will reportedly have 10,000 square feet of space, or nearly five times the size of the original location at Christiana Mall. It is expected to open in the expanded space in time for the holiday shopping season.
I have been a supporter of Microsoft since windows 3.1 and I must say that this is great news! Myself and Del-pros support the store, Microsoft and it’s great products.
