Work is under way on the conversion of the former Post House restaurant in Newark to a dining spot specialized in grilled cheese sandwiches. Work is under way on the interior and the sign for the new establishment has been erected.

The Newark landmark will become a location for Melt Down, a small chain with two other stores in North Wales and Wayne, Pa.

The two Melt Downs in operation are open for lunch and dinner, but do not feature the breakfasts that were a large chunk of the Post Houses’  business at locations in Newark, Wilmington and north Wilmington.

The Post Houses closed their doors in mid-June after nearly a half a century.
