Update: Pedestrian dead, another seriously injured in Bear-area crash

    The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is  are investigating a crash  involving two pedestrians  on U.S. Route 40 and Holly Avenue, Bear.

    One male is dead  and another male victim was taken  to Christiana Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The site of the crash is an area of Route 40 between Routes 7 and 13.

    Troopers reported male pedestrians were walking westbound on the shoulder of Route 40 when both pedestrians entered the right lane directly in front a Honda Accord driven by a Newark man, 27, The front of the vehicle struck both pedestrians in the roadway throwing them to the ground.

    A 27-year-old New Castle man was pronounced dead at the scene.  Jason A. Atkinson, 34, was taken to Christiana Hospital Emergency Room where he was admitted in critical condition. Westbound  lanes on Route 40  were closed  for two hours.
