Food Lion, the Delaware State Fair and the Food Bank of Delaware announced a new partnership to collect more than 5,000 pounds of food in late July to help feed hungry local residents.

Fair attendees are encouraged to bring four Food Lion-brand canned goods in exchange for free gate admittance to the Delaware State Fair from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Monday, July 23. The community effort is part of the first “Food Lion Hunger Relief Day” at the Delaware State Fair.

Donations received through the effort will assist families in Kent and Sussex Counties struggling to put food on the table. Through its network of hunger-relief partners, the Food Bank of Delaware currently serves more than one in four Delaware residents.

Volunteers from Food Lion, Lake Forest School District and the Food Bank of Delaware will accept donations at Gates 1 and 7. Collection boxes will also be set up at the remaining entry gates. No items stored in glass will be accepted.
