The Delaware Coastal Zone Board has voted 5 to 1 with two abstentions, allowing Bloom Energy’s permit to build 235 Bloom Boxes in northern New Castle County.
The fuel cells are fueled by natural gas and provide electricity that helps meeting alternative fuel requirements.
The approval came despite the objections of one group that has remained critical of the project and is now claiming that the boxes could contain potentially hazardous materials. The institute also claims the state’s alternative energy standards that provides subsidies for Bloom drives out and limits growth at Delaware businesses.
