Gov. Jack Markell joined  ambassadors from the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning  at the new U.S. Male Modern Barbershop  on Lancaster Pike in Hockesin.

The ribbon cutting also marked  13 years of ownership for the President of U.S. Male Modern Barbershop Christopher Arnold.

Christopher began cutting hair nearly 20 years ago in Hockessin.  The first U.S. Male Modern Barbershop opened on Main Street in Newark, Delaware in 1999.

Over the course of the last 13 years, he has expanded to 6 barbershops, with plans for a 7th this year.

“Delaware is a great place to start and grow a business and Chris Arnold is proof of that,” said Markell. “A combination of talent, training and entrepreneurial spirit has propelled Chris Arnold to business success.  Just as Chris built his barbershop business, we want potential entrepreneurs, many of whom are probably graduating soon from Delaware schools, to find Delaware the right place to realize their business dreams.”
