On May 18, North Carolina Avenue will become Dennis C. Gomes Avenue. Mayor Lorenzo T. Langford will hold a street naming dedication at the intersection of Pacific and North Carolina Avenues at 1:30 p.m.
Gomes was a legendary figure in the gaming industry. As a gaming enforcement officer in Nevada, he led efforts to eradicate mob influence in the casinos and end “skimming” operations.
He went on to become a casino executive known for his promotional flair. His final effort involved turning around the tired Resorts casino in Atlantic City.
Gomes died in February.
