DuPont, Navient make the Fortune 500 list

NavientDelaware had two companies listed on the recently released Fortune 500 list This was the 61st list by the financial magazine and websigte.

DuPont came in 87th with $36 billion in revenue, while Navient joined the list for the first time with at 463rd.

DuPont is based in Wilmington, but is moving its headquarters to its Chestnut Run site west of the city. The company recently underwent a bruising battle for board seats with activist investor Nelson Peltz who narrowly lost a bid for one of the four open seats on the DuPont board. Feltz had pushed for a further restructuring of DuPont, which will become smaller this summer when the Performance Chemical business will be spun off into  Chemours, a publicly traded company.

Navient moved its headquarters to the city this year. The company was split off from student lender Sallie Mae, which is also a publicly traded company based near Newark. Navient posted $5.6 billion in annual revenue.

The Fortune 500 list is based on annual revenue.

The five largest companies are as follows:

  1. Walmart
  1. Exxon Mobil
  1. Chevron
  1. Berkshire Hathaway – Warren Buffett’s group of companies that includes the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, insurer Geico and Berkshire Hathaway Home Services.
