Capriotti'sCapriotti’s Sandwich Shop is reopening its Hockessin location under new management.

The sandwich shop is  returning to its original address at 120 Lantana Square, Hockessin To celebrate the reopening, Capriotti’s in Hockessin will be giving away 100 free nine-inch-long Bobbies to the first 100 customers on  Monday.

The Bobbie, invented by a co-founder of the company, features a “Thanksgiving meal on a sandwich,” with stuffing, freshly made turkey, cranberry sauce and a dash of mayo.

Other creations include the Cole Turkey (cole slaw turkey and Russian dressing)  Capastrami (pastrami, swiss cheese and Russian dressing).

The location, which opened in the early 1990s, was part of the original expansion of Capriotti’s, which went on to add stores in Delaware and Las Vegas. The original sub and cheese steak shop remains on Union Street in Wilmington’s Little Italy neighborhood.

Franchisee Ashley Morris of Las Vegas went on to buy the family owned company, which now has more than 100 franchised stores in 16 states from coast to coast.

Capriotti’s has moved into major markets, including Washington, D.C., home of long-time fan Vice President Joe Biden.

The Hockessin store, once one its top grossing locations, fell victim to highly publicized financial issues with the former owner that ended up in lawsuits and an equipment auction.

The company has expanded into vegetarian items, but has also dropped some local favorites, such as cheeseburger subs.

“Delaware is the birthplace of Capriotti’s, so it was really important to us that we put forth a concerted effort to bring our subs back to loyal fans in the Hockessin community,” said Morris.  “With our dedicated new franchise partner, Hockessin residents can now celebrate the return of their favorite neighborhood sandwich shop with a chance to get a free Bobbie.”

The location is open seven days a week.
