Punkin ChunkinThe  Punkin Chunkin event may move from its Sussex County location to Dover International Speedway this fall.

Both the Delaware State News and Dover Post reported the news.

The events, which has become an international attraction, was looking at  other locations after the current landowner wanted to end holding the event. That led to concerns that the event could move to a location in neighboring Maryland.

Legislators were unsuccessful in effort to pass a bill that would place fewer liability restrictions on the event, which involves shooting pumpkins from cannons and other devices. Click here for a previous story.

The proposed  reforms were reportedly opposed by the powerful trial lawyer lobby in the state

The event is believed to add millions of dollars to the economy of the state.

According to the reports, The World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association WCPCA is currently seeking approval of its membership body for its fall 2014 event location.

The speedway and staff are skilled at dealing with large crowds that come from two NASCAR weekends and more recently the Firefly music festival.
