Sussex County Restauranteur Matt Haley won a humanitarian award and gave an an acceptance speech at the event held in New York City Monday night.
Haley now operates a half a dozen restaurants in coastal Sussex as well as management catering and food operations. He joined the restaurant business after doing time in prison for drug offenses and while overcoming addiction.
His work in the community includes not only Delaware, but also Nepal, where he has worked to find educational and job opportunities for children in orphanages.

In his speech, Haley praised the State of Delaware and lauded the restaurant industry for giving him a chance when other doors were barred shut.
