ChaddsFordLive.com reports that the proposed Wegman’s supermarket has cleared another hurdle and now only has one more to go.
Last month, the Chadds Ford Zoning Hearing Board voted 3-0 to grant variances for the project.
The final hurdles is approval from the Chadds Ford Board of Supervisors, which meets on Jan. 6. If approval is given, work is expected to begin in January and be finished in 18 to 20 months.
Wegman’s has been expanding in the region, with a store in Malvern. North Wilmington has been mentioned for a site, but the lack of available land and land use hurdles have been cited as reasons for not coming into the state.
Upscale grocer, Whole Foods has a store to the south of the Wegman’s site and reportedly took at a look at a Delaware location several years ago.
Wegman’s, based in upstate New York, is a highly regarded grocer that is often ranked as one of the top food food store chains in the nation. The company operates large stores with a varied selection that attract shoppers from long distances.
