West Chester, Pa. drilling equipment manufacturer Schramm has rolled out a rig that is on its way to a Marcellus-Utica gas location. The Schramm T500XD Telemast was shipped in eight truckloads. The rig is designed for horizontal and directional drilling to a total depth of 15,000 ft. or more. Philly.com reported the cost of the rig is $7.6 million.
The century-old company has specialized in trailer or truck-mounted drilling equipment, but rolled out the rig as a way to tap into the shale gas boom in Pennsylvania and adjacent states. The rig is also good news for Pennsylvania, which wants to see more home-grown equipment used in drilling and extraction of natural gas.
Schramm became well known a few years ago when its equipment was used to extract miners who were trapped underground in Chile.
The shipping for this equipment must have been just as much as the rig. Eight truck loads! Its unreal how much a rig costs. 7.6 million for one machine seems like a bit much for me. Anything a million and under seems right.
