The plug-in hybrid car builder announced the financial milestone as it works to secure the federal government loan that would allow it to assemble the mid-sized Fisker Atlantic at the former GM plant west of Wilmington.
Fisker has not ruled out building the Atlantic elsewhere, claiming it has other private financing in place. It has also remained under fire throughout the presidential campaign by conservative think tanks and others for taking federal money to build its luxury Fisker Karma in Finland. That charge has been repeatedly denied.
The company also took a hit when serious problems developed with a Karma during a Consumer Reports test. CEO Tom LaSorda said all new companies face such challenges and cited the milestones as evidence that Fisker is succeeding.
