A study of reports on workplace deaths and injuries has Delaware placing 24th among the 50 states.

Personal injury lawyers Triumph Law, P.C., Sacramento, CA, analyzed OSHA data on the number of work-related deaths, injuries, and illnesses in each state from 2020-2022 and calculated the number of incidents per 100,000 hours to determine the most dangerous state for workers.

North Dakota tops the list, with 2.772 incidents per 100,000 hours worked from 2020-2022. Montana, Washington, and Rhode Island rank second, third, and fourth, respectively.

The safest state for workers is Utah, with 0.464 deaths, injuries or illnesses per 100,000 hours worked. From 2020-2022, there were 7.8 billion hours worked in the state, with 36,231 incidents occurring during that time. Following closely behind are Illinois and Florida, with 0.792 and 0.830 deaths, injuries or illnesses per 100,000 hours worked, respectively.

Recently, the Delaware Department of Labor announced the SafeDE program, which aims to reduce the number of workplace injuries and deaths. Seventeen workplace deaths were reported in the state in 2022.
