Avelo Airlines announced a milestone for its Wilmington Airport (ILG) routes with more than 350,000 customers boarding and deplaning on 2,500 flights.

This milestone validates Avelo’s industry-leading affordability, reliability, and convenience, Which It has introduced to Philadelphia and Delaware Valley-area travelers since taking a flight at ILG in February 2023, a release stated.

Avelo operates an ultra-low-fare business model, offering lower fares and added costs for luggage, seat selection, and extra legroom on nonstop flights on Boeing 737 jets that are typically two hours long.

Avelo has also reported a nearly perfect reliability record during its operation at ILG. After excluding weather-related cancellations outside Avelo’s control, the airline achieved a 99.6% completion rate.

Avelo is flying to seven destinations during the late spring, summer, and early fall; Tampa, Orlando, Fort Meyers, San Juan, Wilmington, NC; Myrtle Beach, and West Palm Beach. Flights to Sarasota, FL, will resume in November.

The airline broke even or earned a profit in the fourth quarter and the first quarter of 2024. Avelo typically offers its nonstop flights from ILG twice weekly. The major exception is Orlando.

Avelo Airlines CEO and founder Andrew Levy said, “Since arriving at ILG 15 months ago, Avelo has introduced travelers in the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley area to a new era of affordability, convenience, and reliability. Today’s milestone demonstrates the appeal our low fares, nonstop access and friendly service are having with travelers throughout the region. It is also clear the fast and easy travel-friendly experience ILG offers has played an equally significant role in inspiring so many people to fly with us. I am grateful to every Avelo Customer who has chosen Avelo.”

Avelo continues to set records at Wilmington Airport,” said Delaware River and Bay Authority Executive Director Thomas J. Cook. “From the beginning, we believed that commercial air service could be successful at Wilmington Airport with the right partner. Avelo shares our values of affordability, convenience, and service and the results speak for themselves.”
