President Joe Biden spent a quiet weekend at his home near Rehoboth Beach.
The official White House schedule reported that the President Saturday flew to Dover Air Force Base from Andrews Air Force Base after giving the commencement address at Howard, a historically Black university in Washington, DC. No public events were scheduled.
Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have a home just outside Rehoboth in the North Shores community.
The First Couple were taken by helicopter Monday morning to Air Force One at Dover Air Force base for a trip to Philadelphia. The nature of the trip has not been announced. They will return to the White House later in the day.
Flight restrictions were in place in the Rehoboth-Ocean City, MD, into Monday morning. The Marine One helicopter carrying the President typically lands on state park land near the Biden home.
Biden is coming off a tough week with concerns mounting over debt ceiling discussions. A stalemate would lead to a recession.
House Republicans insist on cuts in social and other programs that are mainstays of the Biden agenda. Democrats have countered by saying that tax cuts during the Trump Administration that were never recouped by additional tax revenues are a major contributor to the deficit.
The President’s approval rating has also fallen after he announced plans to run for a second term.
Biden’s visits boost local economies as staff and security personnel book rooms at hotels and dine at local restaurants.
The President has also raised the profile of the beach town, which is frequently mentioned in listings of best beach towns.
