Fire causes $1 million in damage to 5 Odessa-area homes

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a Saturday morning fire in the Odessa area  that caused heavy damage to five homes. 

The fire was reported shortly before 4 a.m. in the 600 block of Corbit Drive in the Cantwell Ridge neighborhood in southern New Castle County. The Odessa Fire Company arrived at the scene with flames engulfing a two-story house. Several neighboring fire companies assisted at the scene. 

Deputy fire marshals are investigating the fire’s origin and cause. Five houses were damaged by the wind driven fire.  Sixteen people have been displaced. Fire damage is estimated to exceed $1,000,000. There were no reported injuries. The American Red Cross is assisting with emergency aid. 

This fire remains under investigation.
