Colon and Rectal Surgery Associates of Delaware, a provider of colon and rectal surgery since 1979, has become part of ChristianaCare, effective Jan. 23.. The practice has been renamed ChristianaCare Colorectal Surgery at Newark and remains in its current location in Medical Arts Pavilion 1 on the ChristianaCare Newark campus.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome the caregivers of Colon and Rectal Surgery Associates to ChristianaCare as we join together in service to our community,” said Gerard J. Fulda, M.D., chair of the Department of Surgery at ChristianaCare. “The practice has long shared a deep commitment to serving our patients. This integration will advance our ability to make a positive impact on the health of our patients through the colon and rectal services we provide.”

Patients at ChristianaCare Colorectal Surgery at Newark will gain access to ChristianaCare’s patient portal, electronic medical records and easy referrals to ChristianaCare’s regional network of primary and specialty care services.

The physicians in the practice, Frederick Denstman, M.D., Carey Nathan, M.D., and Shanthi Shakamuri, M.D., are the newest members of the ChristianaCare surgical team.

The physicians in the practice specialize in surgical and non-surgical treatment of conditions. Services include colonoscopy for colon cancer screening, minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic colon surgery, the surgical treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, colitis, Crohn’s disease, colon and rectal cancer, hemorrhoids, fistulas, anal fissures, fecal incontinence and other conditions. The physicians in practice are board certified in colon and rectal surgery.
