Bidens spend quiet weekend at home near Greenville that included visit to Wilmington restaurant

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden flew out ut of the Air Guard base at Wilmington-New Castle Airport Sunday night after spending a quiet weekend at their home near Greenville. They were slated to arrive at the White House at around 9 p.m. after an hour-long flight.

No public events were held during the weekend. Biden’s frequent weekends in Delaware boost the Wilmington economy, with aides, security, and the media taking rooms at Wilmington hotels. The Bidens typically attend mass and spend time with family and friends.

The president was spotted over the weekend at Quoin, a new restaurant in downtown Wilmington. The building also houses a boutique hotel.

Biden’s trips to Delaware have drawn criticism for their expense, although he typically uses the Marine One helicopter fleet, which typically costs far less than Air Force One flights.

The president spent the waning hours of St. Patrick’s Day at home near Greenville after spending Friday at St. Patrick’s Day events in Washington, D.C.

Biden’s Friday included a St. Patrick’s Day meeting with H.E. Leo Varadkar, Taoiseach of Ireland. A Taoiseach is the equivalent of a prime minister.

Biden also attended a St. Patrick”s Day Luncheon held by the Friends of Ireland Caucus St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon. Also in attendance was Republican House Speaker and fellow Irish-American Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy and Biden have been meeting in an effort to head off a debt ceiling crisis.

McCarthy brought up the relationship between Republican President Ronald Reagan and Democratic House Speaker Tip O’Neill, who held contrasting views. Still, the two men of Irish descent found common ground.

Following a St. Patrick’s Day ceremony at the White House attended by Varadkar, Biden flew to the New Castle National Guard base at Wilmington-New Castle Airport.

On Monday, the President and First Lady are hosting an event celebrating Nowruz, the Persian-Iranian new year. They will also host actor Jason Sudeikis and the cast of the Ted Lasso TV series to discuss the mental health to promote overall well-being, according to the White House schedule.
