Fire at Cecil County’s Kilby Farms causes $750,000 in damage

A Thursday morning fire caused heavy damage to a building at well-known Kilby Farms in Colora, about 21 miles west of Newark.

Firefights were called to the farm at around 8 a.m. and found a 70 by 225 foot pole building on fire.

Damage to the structure was estimatd at $750,000.

There were no injuries among the 75 firefighters from Water Witch and other companies who battled the blaze.

The cause of the fire that started in an inside workshop remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office.

Kilby Farms is known in the area for its dairy products and an on-farm ice cream parlor that was closed for the season at the time of the fire.
