Nutter’s Sandwich Shoppe has closed its doors after a 70-year run.
The family issued the following statement and noted that the shop is for sale.
“We have all been mindful of our contribution to the community and thankful for the beauty the community has returned to us.
However, after careful consideration and extensive discussions, the family has made the decision that it is time to retire.
Anyone who knows restaurant business understands the ups and downs of being in that field. It can be fun and exhilarating, but also it can be both mentally and physically demanding. Our team did not make these decisions lightly. And if you would like to reach out to the family about purchasing this fabulous establishment and continuing the legacy, please feel free to.”
The shop was located northwest of Newark near the Delaware-Maryland border.
The shop, featuring crab cakes winning “best of” honors for its crabcakes, was a long-time favorite for students, residents, hikers, and others, despite its off-the-beaten-path location.
