Black Friday Delaware gas prices continued to show a slow decline.

Over the past week, the average price at the pump for regular has dropped by nine cents, but remains more than 20 cents ahead of a year ago. Diesel prices remain high and are more than $2 a gallon above last year’s figure. That puts more inflationary pressure on shipping costs.

AAA’s Fuel Finder found gas prices in the $3.40 a gallon range at some stations.

Travelers did see the highest Thanksgiving national average price since AAA started keeping records in 2000.

“The national average has fallen sharply since the June peak of nearly $5.02,” Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson said earlier in the week. “But this Thanksgiving will be about 20 cents higher than a year ago, and a dollar more per gallon than a pre-pandemic 2019. However, we can be thankful that gas prices are moving in the right direction for now.”

According to data from the Energy Information Administration, gas demand fell from 9.01 million to 8.74 million last week. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks rose by nearly 2.2 million barrels to 207.9 million barrels.

Crude oil prices, which comprise about half of the price at the pump were under $78 a barrel in Monday trading. Prices have been under pressure due to Covid-19 outbreaks in China that could rattle the supply chain.
