Frontier Airlines, which flies to about two dozen cities from Philadelphia International Airport, has again rolled out a travel pass that comes with a lot of restrictions that include a brief sales period.

Last week, the airline offered a $599 pass good for a year for a couple of days. it followed up with a $799 pass that expires on Tuesday night.

The GoWild Pass won’t help Florida snowbirds or Colorado-bound skiers this winter since it does not go into effect until May and comes with a number of blackout periods around holidays and other times. It does cover international travel.

Under the program, domestic flights eligible for the pass are booked a day before departure, with ten days for international service. Seats are not guaranteed. Frontier flies to many destinations a few days a week on days that are attractive to non-business travelers.

If the pass is renewed a year from now, the cost will total nearly $2,000. Categories interested in the pass, according to social media posts, include long-distance relationships and retirees able to travel on short notice.

Frontier Airlines is an ultra-low fare carrier that adds charges for everything from seat assignments to checked luggage and bags in overhead bins.

Airline passes have been offered from time to time, with carriers adding restrictions to avoid planeloads of passengers flying free.

The fees for assigned seats and baggage add another revenue source for Frontier. Also, Frontier also has fuel-efficient jets that operate at a lower cost than competitors.

Frontier ended twice-weekly flights to Orlando from Wilmington Airport earlier this year. Flying into the airport in February will be Avelo Airlines, which will offer twice or three-time-a-week service to five Florida cities, including Orlando.
