Dover’s Firefly Festival will take a one-year break after a 10-year run,

Organizers made the cryptic announcement accompanied by a social media video.

The festival has become a mainstay for a Dover-area entertainment economy that has seen the departure of one of two NASCAR weekends.

Over the years, attendance at NASCAR’s main race led to half of the track’s seating being removed, although signs pointed to an upturn this year.

Firefly is held in the Woodlands area near the Dover track.

The festival took a break due to Covid-19 and then moved from June to September.

The musical line-up has featured a variety of performers but, in recent years focused on a younger demographic.

The event featured food and drink and luxury camping or “glamping.”

Attendance has been up and down for Firefly over its existence, a reflection of the outdoor festival business that has seen other events come and go.
