Chancery Market Food Hall & Bar is preparing for a fall opening in downtown Wilmington
The 12,000-square-foot culinary collective and indoor/outdoor bar will feature dining experiences from around the world, curated by HQ Hospitality co-founder and chef Akhtar Nawab, a release stated.
HQ has food halls and restaurants in various U.S. cities. The project was first announced in February.
It will be the second food hall on Market Street. The DuPont-Building on Rodney Square is home to the DE.CO food hall.
“Chancery Market represents the start of exciting redevelopment projects for 1313 N. Market and 1201 N. Market,” said Scott Johnson, representing ownership of 1313 N. Market and TSG Hospitality LLC. “As our tenants continue to return to the office environment, Chancery Market and the adjacent outdoor plaza will be an exciting amenity for professionals in the city, as well as a welcoming gathering place for our wider community and visitors.”
The two buildings include Delaware’s tallest office building and what may still be known to long-time residents as the Hercules Building at 1313 N. Market, the site of Chancery Market.
Among the concepts coming to Chancery Market is an outpost of a New York City fried chicken spot Fuku.
Also coming to Chancery Market is Rooted AF, a quick-service vegan spot offering multicultural fare, herbal products, cold-pressed juices, and smoothies; and Kati Roll Wala, serving Indian cuisine including street food staples such as Kati Rolls and Rice Bowls.
Hospitality HQ (HHQ) will oversee all management and operations of Chancery Market. HHQ is welcoming additional concepts. Nawab is seeking vendor applications from minority-owned businesses and culinarians who “create various styles of global cuisine with reimagined specialties.”

Open seven days a week, Chancery Market Food Hall & Bar will include both shared and private dining space, seating for 233 people, and an indoor/outdoor Nectar Bar.
A newly created 10,000-square-foot plaza will feature outdoor dining and co-working areas with seating for 150, gardens and landscaping designed by the Delaware Center for Horticulture, as well as activities and games for families and visitors. Onsite garage parking will be available, with parking incentives for those who dine at Chancery Market.

Häagen-Dazs Shoppe opening in Middletown
Häagen-Dazs Shoppe Company Inc. will open its first Delaware store in Middletown on Saturday. A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 1 p.m.The Middletown location features an updated Häagen-Dazs shop design.
Offerings will include Dulce de Leche Dazzler, sundaes along with Häagen-Dazs’ ice cream and sorbets, including cookies & cream, vanilla, and Belgian Chocolate.
“We’re thrilled to expand into the state of Delaware with hopes of our Middletown location attracting the local community and providing delicious, luxurious treats for folks touring up and down the East Coast. With numerous locations in the surrounding states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey, we are excited to finally open up shop in Delaware,” stated Adam Hanson, president of Häagen-Dazs Shops.
The store is located at 7 West Main Street in Middletown.
Waffle House coming to Bear
Work is finally underway on a Waffle House in Bear.
A former doctor’s office building off Route 40 east of Salem Church Road has been razed with one of the more than 1,900 restaurants from the company constructed in its place.
Waffle Houses, a mainstay in the South, are typically open around the clock 365 days a year, with basic, breakfast and lunch/dinner. items. Don’t ask for home fries. Hash browns are the potato option. The chain has been moving into the Mid-Atlantic and has locations as far west as Arizona.
The company has a disaster recovery plan with backup generators and emergency crews when storms hit the South. Emergency management officials know a closed Waffle House is a bad sign in an area hit by a hurricane.
Waffle House will join other businesses, including Game Changers Sports Bar & Grille and Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology, in Elizabeth Plaza. Its next-door neighbor is the injury law firm of Doroshow, Pasquale, Krawitz & Bhaya. Waffle House had been slated for completion in late 2020 but was delayed during the pandemic.
It will be their fourth location in Delaware, with others in Middletown, Smyrna, and Dover. Waffle House also has a restaurant near the Delaware line in Elkton, MD.
