Delaware Business Now receives state and city rankings on a daily basis. Three showed up on Wednesday alone. Below is a sampling as we work through our Email files. Keep in mind that advocacy organizations here and elsewhere feature rankings that fit their narrative.
It is true that Delaware has its shortcomings that show up in areas such as wellness and the economic climate. We’ll work to provide some balance.
Dover, Wilmington near the top in June jobless rates
Wilmington and Dover had among the five highest unemployment rates among large and medium-sized cities, according to a report from the financial information website WalletHub.
Among the 180 cities in the report, Dover ranked had the second highest jobless rate at 179 topped only by Detroit. with Wilmington at 177.
Mid-Atlantic cities have typically been slower to recover jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Miami, FL ranked No. 1. Despite having more Covid-19 restrictions on business and public places than many states, California cities ranked near the top in their job recovery rates.

Delaware makes the top 10 as a good state for an electric vehicle
In a new study, SmartAsset analyzed data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia in rating good states for EVs.
Factors ranged from the number of charging stations per capita to estimated fuel savings. Despite, Delaware’s lower gas tax, Maryland drivers paid slightly less at the pump based on the ranking. Still, the First State squeezed into the top 10.

Delaware 22nd in remote work interest
TodayTesting released its report on 2022’s States & Cities Most Interested in Remote Work, with Delaware ranking 22nd.
TodayTesting worked together with a data science consulting firm to analyze and compare changes in interest in remote work across all 50 states.
Findings:
- – North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Arizona showed the largest increase in interest in remote work before and after Covid.
- – Montana, North Dakota, Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Oregon, Minnesota, Idaho, Vermont, and Louisiana showed the least increase in interest in remote work before and after Covid.
- – Google search interest in remote work has skyrocketed in the last year.
- States with a lower cost of living were more likely to have seen increased interest in finding remote jobs

Delaware one of the worst states for freelancers
We hate to be Debbie Downers here, but Delaware is not a great state for freelance workers. In fact, it’s No. 50, according to a report from Tipalti. The study analyzed factors such as the number of coworking spaces, the cost of living, and broadband speeds.

Botanic Gardens finalist for Best Restroom
Finally, Delaware has one of the top restrooms in the nation. The facilities at Delaware Botanic Gardens near Dagsboro has emerged as a finalist in America’s Best Restroom competition sponsored by bathroom and uniform supplier Cintas.
The building, according to Cinta the restroom, “combines contemporary forms and a thoughtful material palette in a structure that both enhances the landscape and serves its function as a fully accessible restroom. Without a doubt, the restrooms at the DBG are truly part of the unique garden experience,”
