Crozer Health has announced leadership changes ahead of a possible merger with Delaware-based ChristianaCare, the Philadephia Business Journal reported.

Anthony Esposito moved over to CEO from another management post with the Crozer system.

He will be the third person to hold the position in recent months. His predecessor from Prospect, the pro-profit parent company of the health system took the post temporarily after the previous CEO left the Springfield, PA-based health care system and the largest provider in Delaware County.

A merger with ChristianaCare would have its share of complexities since it would involve a conversion from a for-profit to a nonprofit system. The agreement is subject to due diligence by ChristianaCare and other conditions.

Crozier is surrounded by large health care systems that include Temple, Jefferson and ChristianaCare, Delaware’s largest hospital system.

Its Crozier Chester Medical Center, near Chester, has a regional burn unit that serves Delaware.

In the meantime, ChrsitianaCare continues to expand in Pennsylvania. It recently reached an agreement to acquire the shuttered Jennersville Hospital in southern Chester County,

ChristianaCare announced that it will work with the community to determine the services that would be offered.

The closing of the hospital at the end of 2021 raised concerns about emergency care in an area where the nearest hospitals are in West Chester and ChristianaCare’s Newark Campus.
