Covid-19 surge continues in Delaware

Delaware is continuing to see a surge in Covid-19 cases.
 
The Friday summary from the Delaware Division of Public Health reported 408 new cases.
 
A new fast-spreading variant is believed to be responsible for the surge. This week both President Joe Biden and Delaware U.S. Sen. Tom Carper.
 

Nine deaths were reported following a review of May and June vital statistics records, bringing the death toll from the virus to 3,021, slightly more than the population of Milton, a town in Sussex County.
 
Five of deaths came  New Castle County residents, with the remainder from Sussex County. The individuals ranged in age from their 60s to 90s. All had underlying health conditions. Six were fully vaccinated, two were not vaccinated, and one was a resident of a long-term health care facility.
 
Other Numbers:
• 19.9% of total tests were positive in the seven-day rolling average (up seven-tenths of a percentage point from the previous report).
• 139 people were hospitalized (down 12 from the previous report).
• 19 new hospital admissions (down 18 from the previous report).
• 1,767 tests performed daily in the seven-day average (down 14 from the previous report).
• 685,035 people were fully vaccinated (up 956 from the previous report, according to the CDC Vaccine Tracker).
• 1,898,246 total vaccine doses administered (up 7,436 from the previous report, according to the CDC Vaccine Tracker).
