Wawa plans to expand into the fast-growing Nashville area in the next few years

It comes after announcements of future expansion into the Florida Panhandle, south Alabama and North Carolina. Current plans are for Wawa to open its first Nashville store in 2025 with the potential for up to 40 stores in the market in the future.

“With a commitment to Fulfilling Lives in our community, we’re thrilled to continue our growth in new markets to provide quality fresh food, beverages and support to new friends and neighbors,” stated John Poplawski, vice president of real estate for Wawa. “We are excited to expand beyond our current operating area and look forward to serving the community come 2025 and beyond.”

Wawa continues to open stores throughout its current markets and is set to open 54 new stores in 2022. Wawa has sites under development in Delaware and lists a store at Route 40 and 7 in Bear as a “coming soon” location. That store replaces a Wawa housed in an small strip property that was razed to make way for new stores.

Additionally, Wawa has plans to other adjacent markets in the next few years. The company is asking for site suggestions for Nashville.

Wawa, which is nearing 1,000 stores, has four dozen locations in Delaware. The company has enjoyed success in Florida, due in part to the sizable number of Delaware Valley residents who have moved to the Sunshine State. It has also moved south into Virginia.

Decades ago, the company sold stores in Connecticut and has not expanded into southern New England. Since that time, it has become a major gas retailer, with a national reputation for its food menu and coffee. it has also not gone head to head in the upstate Pennsylvania stronghold of Sheetz, although the two chains do compete in Lancaster, PA, and other markets.

Wawa is headquartered in Delaware County, PA.
