Delaware gas prices remained steady over the weekend after increasing by 15 cents a gallon over the past week.

Motorists are now paying about $4.60 a gallon for regular. That translates into about $70 to fill up a 15-gallon tank.

Delaware’s price at the pump now matches the national figure. In the past, the state’s lower gas tax typically kept the price per gallon below the national average.

The national average for a gallon of gas has not fallen for nearly a month, AAA reported on Monday.

Gasoline has either remained flat or risen every day since April 24 and has set a new record daily since May 10. A gallon of gasoline is now $4.59 and all 50 states are above $4 per gallon.

“Gasoline is $1.05 more than it was on February 24, when Russia invaded Ukraine,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “That sent shock waves through the oil market that have kept oil costs elevated. Domestically, meanwhile, seasonal gas demand is rising as more drivers hit the road, despite the pain they face paying at the pump.”

Meanwhile, crude oil prices, which account for about 60% of the price at the pump, have been running at around $113 a barrel.
