Pike Creek condo fire claims 1 life and leaves 30 or more homeless

A fire at a Pike Creek condominium complex left one person dead, left 30 or more homeless and caused $1 million in damage, the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal reported. The victim was found inside one of the units by firefighters.

Three condominium buildings were damaged in the blaze.

 The fire reported shortly before 3 a.m, occurred at the  Mermaid Run Condominiums in the 5000 block of West Brigantine Court  The Mill Creek Fire Company arrived on the scene and found flames shooting from the three-story building.  

State fire investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s cause and point of origin.

The Delaware Division of Forensic Science came out to the scene and took custody of the victim.  Three buildings, housing six units each, were damaged.  Approximately 30 or more residents have been displaced.  

The American Red Cross came to the scene and assisted residents. No other injuries were reported.
