Name of man gunned down outside gym in Bear released

Delaware State Police have released the name of the victim of a fatal shooting outside a Bear fitness center.

He was identified as  Kwa’jree Turner, 22, of New Castle. 

The shooting that claimed Turner’s was one of two that occurred outside a northern New Castle County business last week.

On Thursday night at about 9:40 p.m., Delaware State Police were called to the parking lot of Esporta (LA Fitness) at 900 Eden Circle.

The investigation determined Turner left the center and was approaching his vehicle in the parking lot when someone began shooting at the victim. Multiple spent shell casings were recovered from the scene.

Turner suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

No suspect information has been released

Delaware State Police are also investigating a shooting that occurred outside a Prices Corner area liquor store Friday night.

At 7:38 p.m., Friday night, troopers were dispatched to Christiana Hospital for an individual who arrived at the emergency room with an apparent gunshot wound. The investigation determined the 24-year-old New Castle woman was traveling southbound on Newport Gap Pike when she parked on the right shoulder, directly in front of Ted’s Liquors, located at 1202 Newport Gap Pike.

While sitting inside her vehicle, a dark-colored sport utility vehicle traveling southbound on Newport Gap Pike drove by slowly. At the same time, the front passenger leaned out the SUV’s window and fired multiple rounds in the direction of her vehicle before continuing to travel southbound on Newport Gap Pike. The victim fled the area and was transported by a private vehicle to the hospital. She suffered two graze wounds to her arm and abdomen during the shooting.

An investigation at the scene was conducted, and multiple shell casings were located outside of Ted’s Liquors.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored SUV. There is currently no suspect description or surveillance photographs available.
