The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles is waiving late fees for vehicle inspections and registration renewals in response to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

The agency noted that Covid-19 staffing shortages will increase waiting times at its sites in all three counties.

In an effort to minimize crowding and possible exposure to the virus, the DMV is now using a message notification feature that will allow motorists to wait in their vehicles until their turn for service.

The DMV also offers more than 20 services through its online portal mydmv.delaware.gov. Services range from driver’s licenses and vehicle registration renewals. The DMV also provides drive-through services.

Late fee waivers do not apply to International Registration Plan (IRP) vehicles. Individuals are asked to wait until February if they require in-person renewals.

Customers still required to visit a DMV facility should expect longer than usual wait times.

DMV locations continue to increase cleaning and disinfecting efforts and implement additional precautionary measures.

Motor vehicle locations have required masks inside their facilities throughout the pandemic.
