The University of Delaware will require students returning for the spring semester to receive Covid-19 booster shots.
In a letter to the UD community, a deadline of Jan. 24 has been set for a booster shot for students without an exemption for religious or medical reasons.
The letter noted that more than 90% of UD students have been fully vaccinated for six months, the period when booster shots are advised. Those getting the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine can receive a booster after two months.
UD has seen a modest upturn in Covid-19 cases, but not at the level seen at some universities.
Those enrolled in the winter session and have received an exemption will take a weekly PCR test for the virus. The same will apply for the spring semester.
The University also encouraged all students to get tested for Covid-19 before and after traveling for the holiday break.
The last day for not symptom testing on the UD campus before the holiday break will be Monday, Dec. 20. From Jan. 4 through Feb. 3, asymptomatic testing will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Harker ISE Lab and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pencader Dining Hall.
