Delaware State University will require Covid-19 booster shots for returning students and start the spring semester with virtual classes.

President Tony Allen cited the ability of the Omicron variant to spread rapidly, even among the fully vaccinated.

The return to campus will be delayed by two weeks, with virtual classes taking place during that time.

DSU will hold a forum next week to answer questions regarding the change.

“While Covid-19 continues to disrupt our normal business, the University’s nimble, science-based approach has served us well since the pandemic’s earliest days, keeping case counts low by using the best tools at our disposal, including required vaccination, mask-wearing, regular testing, and contact-tracing protocols,” Allen wrote.
