President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden are flying out of Delaware late Sunday morning after a short visit.

The First Couple will depart for the White House at from Wilmington-New Castle Airport shortly before noon and arrive at the White House about an hour later.

A VIP air restriction remains in place in the Wilmington area through Sunday.

The President spoke Friday at the funeral for fellow U.S. Sen. Bob Dole. He also learned that inflation had spiked to a level not seen since the early 1980s.

Higher gas prices, supply chain issues, and a labor shortage all contributed to the higher inflation numbers. Gas prices have seen a slow decline in the past couple of weeks.

Inflation has become a growing concern with Americans and has contributed to Biden’s lower approval ratings.

Earlier in the week, the First Lady met with the crew and families from the USS Delaware, a submarine based in Connecticut that was commissioned during the pandemic. A previously planned launch at the Port of Wilmington was canceled.

The President and First Lady generally split their weekends between their home near Greenville and Camp David.
