Delaware has seen a double-digit increase in rents since 2019.

That was the finding from QuoteWizard, a LendingTree company site that offers quotes on renters insurance.

Since 2019, rents for a one-bedroom apartment have risen 28% in Delaware, putting the state in the upper tier in the size of rent hikes.

Rents typically increased the fastest since 2019 in Sun Belt states such as Arizona, Florida, and Nevada. One exception was Maine, which saw a 32% increase.

On the plus side, QuoteWizard reported that renters insurance is a good deal in Delaware, with rates below the national average.

Methodology: Rent cost data was sourced from Apartment List estimates

QuoteWizard reported that the Covid-19 pandemic affected rentals as landlords dealt with eviction moratoriums and many tenants who could not keep up on rent. In addition, new construction is affected by rising costs, a tight labor market, and supply chain disruptions.

A shortage of affordable rentals has been reported throughout Delaware, including Sussex County, which has a combination of relatively high housing prices and lower average incomes.
