Meal delivery service Home Appétit collaborated with the  Chef-Partner of Le Cavalier at the Hotel duPont this month to raise funds for The Warehouse, service partner of The WRK Group (The Warehouse, REACH Riverside, and Kingswood Community Center).

Tyler Akin joined Home Appétit’s Chef Founder, Lee Wallach, in the kitchen to recreate two of the restaurant’s signature dishes to be offered on the Home Appétit menu the week of Monday, November 8th.

The event raised $4,500.

Home Appétit delivers every Monday on a weekly, non-subscription basis to Philadelphia, South Jersey, Delaware, and the surrounding suburbs, including areas in  Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, and Chester counties.

The Warehouse is new space in Northeast Wilmington designed for teens by teens that will provide youth with the tools and opportunities they need to become successful adults.

This collaboration is part of an ongoing charity initiative in which Home Appétit supports a local chef and their organization of choice. To date, they have donated almost $20,000 to various organizations through the program.

The three dishes which Akin and Home Appétit featured were a Chicken Provençal and Whole Roasted Cauliflower.

“We are thrilled to be able to partner with Lee, a fellow native Delawarean, to benefit The Warehouse,” shared Akin. “We’ve had the honor of partnering with the organization to host externships at Le Cavalier and are grateful for the opportunity to deepen our relationship and support their incredible work.”

“I started Home Appétit in private clients’ homes and my one-bedroom apartment in Philadelphia,” said Wallach. “Being able to grow and expand the way that we have over the past seven years has been nothing short of amazing, and I really cannot explain how excited I am to be able to bring Home Appétit to my home state. One of our main goals when expanding was to not only bring our seasonal, chef-prepared meals to Delaware but to also become an active part of the community, working with local farms, businesses and charity organizations. I am thrilled to start our first official collaboration with Tyler and Le Cavalier for such an excellent cause.”

V&M returns to indoor dining

V&M Bistro is back with dine-in service.

The north Wilmington restaurant on Marsh Road quietly reopened its dining room last month after Covid-19 capacity and other restrictions were lifted.

V&M did a brisk carry out business during the pandemic. The family knew a thing about the business having operated Zino’s Pizza at Christiana Mall’s food court for decades.

V&M’s dining room operates by reservation only for dinner and is closed on Sunday and Monday.

Doghouse remodeling project

The Dog House in New Castle is undergoing remodeling.

The cash-only hot dog destination has closed its pizza and sub pick-up area, with a sign proclaiming it will offer breakfast.
