New Castle County and Tyler Technologies kick off the first of five public online meetings throughout the county beginning tonight on the reassessment of property.

All three Delaware counties will see a reassessment of property under an agreement made in Chancery Court over a lawsuit that claimed the lack of reassessment led to inequities in funding education. New Castle County has not seen a reassessment in three decades.

The process will involve a visit by individuals from Tyler, where exterior measurements will be taken.

Reassessment is not designed to increase revenues and typically leads to a third of properties seeing a tax increase,  a third of properties seeing no increase, and a third seeing a reduction. Assessments can be appealed.

Three evening sessions and two afternoon sessions aim to inform the public about the process and answer any questions attendees may have about the process. Limited in-person seating will be offered at the county’s New Castle center.
