Santora CPA Group announces three promotions

Santora CPA Group, a Newark-based Certified Public Accounting, and Consulting firm announced:

Melanie Pokorny has been promoted to Supervisor. Pokorny is a graduate of Philadelphia University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting (2015) and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (2016).

[Not a valid template]Anthony Apostolico, CPA, has been promoted to Senior Accountant.  Apostolico is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Finance.  

Riley Ballard, CPA, has been promoted to Senior Accountant.  Ballard is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting (2017) and a Master’s Degree in Accounting (2018).

Primerica, Inc. names VP

Primerica, Inc. announced the promotion of Harriet Zomie Sarblee to Regional Vice President. She is based in Newark.

GillespieHall names partner

Behaviorist Clara Mattucci has been named partner at the strategic communication firm GillespieHall, Hockessin, a BGP Publicity Inc., business. Mattucci joined GillespieHall as a social media strategist in 2011. Her previous position at the firm before making partner was Chief Operating Officer. 

Mattucci, a social scientist and marketing strategist, leads the discovery and metrics initiatives at GillespieHall. Actions and results are analyzed by in-house researchers, with the findings used to inform client strategies moving forward. 

State Treasurer named association vice president

Members of the Eastern Region of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) elected Delaware State Treasurer Colleen Davis as their new Vice President. Davis succeeds  Henry Beck, Maine’s State Treasurer who recently became Regional President.

Chemours announces board member

The Chemours Company announced the appointment of Sandra Phillips Rogers to its board of directors.

Rogers serves as group vice president, chief legal officer, general counsel, and corporate secretary of Toyota Motor North America (TMNA). In January of 2019,  Rogers also took on the role of chief diversity officer (CDO) and oversight responsibility for Social Innovation, Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs and Compliance and Audit Office.

Roger’s appointment is effective October 1. She joins a ten-member board of directors that is now composed of forty percent women.

EPA names Scuse to committee

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael S. Regan announced 34 new appointments to the Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC) and 16 new members to the Small Communities Advisory Subcommittee (SCAS) today.

 Among those appointed was  Delaware Secretary of Agriculture, Michael T. Scuse (LGAC.

Public Service Commission executive director named

Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock has appointed Matthew Hartigan as Executive Director of the Public Service Commission.  Hartigan has served in roles as the Ombudsman for the Commission and more recently as the Deputy Director since April 26th.

DANA adds team member

The Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement welcomed Pamela Leland, Ph.D. to their team. Leland has worked  in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector as a consultant, executive director, teacher, scholar, and volunteer. She will lead DANA’s professional development programs and provide governance and strategic planning consulting to DANA members.  

Leland completed her Ph.D. in Urban Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Delaware.

ChristianaCare promotions

Kelly Whitmarsh, MS, MBA, has been appointed corporate director of ChristianaCare Heart and Vascular Services. In this role, Whitmarsh provides administrative leadership for the Heart Failure Program, CV Surgical Program, LVAD Program, Aortic Health Program, H&V Joint Commission Accreditation, Structural Heart Program, and the Tobacco Cessation Program.

Whitmarsh holds a master’s in Business Administration and a master’s degree in Organizational Development, Effectiveness, and Change from the University of Delaware, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rutgers. She completed the Executive Program through the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) in 2020.

Matthew Powell, M.D., has been appointed chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at ChristianaCare. Powell will oversee clinical operations and strategic planning for all anesthesia services, credentialing, privileging, and education.

Powell completed his residency at the University of South Florida in 2005. He completed the Health Management Academy Physician Leadership Program in 2017 and the ChristianaCare Healthcare Leadership Certification from the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics in 2018.

Bayhealth adds obstetrician

Bayhealth announced the addition of obstetrician-gynecologist  Roni Dermo, MD, to Bayhealth Women’s Care, Sussex Campus. She specializes in all aspects of women’s reproductive health, including pregnancy and childbirth. D

Dermo comes to Bayhealth from WellSpan-York Hospital in York, PA  where she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology. She has a medical degree, as well as a master’s degree in biomedical sciences, from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

 Beebe Healthcare names VP

Beebe Healthcare announced that William M. Chasanov II, DO, MBA, FACP, was recently promoted to the position of Vice President, Chief Population Health Officer. 

Chasanov received his medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia. He then earned a Master of Business Administration at the University of Delaware, his undergraduate alma mater. He completed his internal medicine residency at ChristianaCare Health System and infectious disease fellowship at Cooper University Hospital.

Chasanov is double board-certified in both Infectious Disease and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additionally, he is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians.

Sea Grant director named

School of Marine Science and Policy faculty member Joanna York named director of Delaware Sea Grant (DESG).

As an associate professor in the School of Marine Science and Policy in the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment, York has experience working with DESG on projects of her own that were funded by Sea Grant in the past. 

Thompson Island Brewing announce additions

Jimmy Valm, the brewmaster at Thompson Island Brewing Company in Rehoboth Beach, announced that Charlotte Jump and Nikolas Theopold have joined his team for a total of five brewers.

Valm will oversee production at both brewpubs, which are part of Rehoboth Beach-based SoDel Concepts. The company currently has 18 business operations, including Matt’s Fish Camp, which will open in Fenwick Island this fall.

Jump, who has been at Thompson Island since it opened in 2019, started as a server, but the biochemistry major, who graduate from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, said he was drawn to the brewing process.

Theopold recently graduated from UCLA with a master’s degree in organic chemistry. He became interested in brewing when he met a brewmaster in California.

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices adds associate

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, Realtors Christiana Office, welcomed Jessica Sims as a sales associate. Sims serves all of Delaware, with a focus on New Castle County.
