Ground broken for Newark Jewish student center after arson fire a year ago

Ground was broken Monday  on a new center for Jewish students at the University of Delaware.

On hand were university and government leaders.

The groundbreaking comes a little more than a year  after the Chabad Center, also known as the Little Blue House,  was hit by an arson-caused blaze.

The fire made national news during a period of growing  antisemitism,  with the University of Delaware community and Delaware residents offering their support. Months later, an attempted arson was reported at a Chabad Center in North Wilmington.

A GoFundMe campaign raised more than a half a million dollars that will be used in rebuilding a far larger building to replace the small structure housing the center.

More details of the project and the fund-raising effort are available here.
