The Delaware Department of Transportation’s contractor, Garden State Highway Products, will install Dynamic Chevron Warning Systems along I-95 southbound approaching the Brandywine River Bridge in Wilmington.
Depending on the weather, the installation will take place between Tuesday night at 10 p.m. at 5 a.m. on Wednesday.
Starting at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, one lane of travel southbound through the work zone will be available. This will allow the contractor to the chevron warning system on the existing warning signs on the curve approaching the Brandywine River Bridge.
The chevrons will operate with flashing LED-embedded warning systems. The chevrons are used to warn motorists along curves on roadway and interchange ramps, providing improved visibility and another warning of alignment changes, a DelDOT release stated.
Personnel and equipment will be working close to the travel lanes.
DelDOT spokesman C.R. McLeod said the chevron installation is not related to the Interstate 95 reconstruction project in Wilmington. It is part of an overall safety initiative and will be the first such installation in the state
The I-95 reconstruction project has seen its share of traffic accidents in recent months. Recently, a volunteer firefighter attempting to assist a crash victim died after being struck by a vehicle.
