Seaford woman held on business-related theft charges dies at Baylor prison

A woman held on charges of theft and falsifying business records died at the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution last week.

The Delaware Department of Correction reported that Kimberly A. Barnett, 47, had multiple underlying chronic medical conditions.

Barnett was unresponsive in her single-occupant cell during a routine security check shortly after 11:30 p.m. on July 1.  CPR was immediately initiated by security and on-site medical staff.  Emergency Medical Services Paramedics were dispatched to the facility and continued life-saving measures. Barnett was pronounced dead after midnight on July 2.

Barnett, of Seaford, had been in custody since June 29, in lieu of  $9,000 cash bail on charges of Falsifying Business Records, Theft by False Pretenses, Conspiracy, Theft over $1,500, and related charges. 

Her body was released to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to determine the cause of death.  Foul play is not suspected. 

Delaware State Police are conducting a death investigation.
