Delaware saw a sharp increase in daily  Covid-19 cases and two new deaths  as the state Division of Public Health resumed its daily report.

The report had been made a weekly basis after daily cases fell below 50.

The two people who died  range  in age from their 60s to 80s, bringing Delaware’s total number of Covid-related deaths to 1,700, more than the population of the Kent County town of  Cheswold.

Neither person was vaccinated, both had underlying health conditions. Neither resided in long-term care facility. Nearly all deaths in recent weeks came from individuals who were not fully vaccinated.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported this week Sussex County has moved into the red zone that shows significant spread of the virus. The state’s other two counties are in the moderate category, although the rising number of cases may change that status.
