A public hearing is scheduled on Monday night regarding plans for a pharmaceutical campus in Middletown.
On the agenda for the meeting area hearings for a conditional use permit and preliminary major land development plan for a 187-acre site at 1091 Industrial Drive, formerly listed as 950 Levels Road.
A manufacturing site would also require permits from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Enivonmenental Control (DNREc).
The company’s identity has not been revealed, and town officials have been tight-lipped about the project.
A representative of a commercial real estate company based outside Delaware earlier appeared before Middletown’s planning and zoning panel to discuss details of the project that has the potential to employ 1,200.
Delaware has seen a spurt of development activity, with Middletown having an inventory of land zoned for manufacturing and distribution.
Access for truck traffic has been aided by the new Route 301 toll road that connects with Route 1 and Interstate 95. Route 301 through fast-growing Middletown had long been a bottleneck.
The population of the town has swelled to nearly 24,000, according to the 2020 census, up from about 6,200 in 2000.
In keeping with the end of Covid-19 meeting restrictions, the council meeting will be in-person only, with no remote access.
