A Philadelphia woman has been charged with manslaughter after the death of a woman in the area outside Christiana Mall.
Delaware State Police identified the woman as Shaidiah McNeair, 24.
On Monday at around 4:08 p.m., troopers went to 800 Christiana Mall Road, Newark, for a report of a black Ford Fusion hitting a metal guardrail in the area of the Target store.
A 27-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced dead Identification is pending notification to next of kin.
It was determined that a second person was inside of the vehicle and fled. Troopers located the apparent passenger, later identified as Shaidiah McNeair.
McNeair was taken into custody without incident. Troopers searched the area and found a white plastic bag along an embankment that contained a handgun.
The investigation snarled traffic in the area of the mall.
WDEL, citing court records, reported that McNeair admitted to the gun discharging during an argument after first claiming another individual shot her friend.
McNeair was transported to Troop 2 where she was interviewed and charged with the following:
- Manslaughter
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
McNeair was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and taken to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $250,000 cash bail.
